Ride the Klondike Highway up to the White Pass Summit!

For our strongest cyclists, we recommend grabbing a rental bike and heading up the White Pass Summit. From our bike shop, you can ride 3292’ uphill over approximately 15 miles to the Summit. You’ll pass US Customs about 6 miles into the ride – don’t forget to bring your passport! After reaching the summit, we recommend riding just slightly further to take your picture next to the Welcome to Alaska sign. Then, you can choose to continue your ride into Canada as far you desire then turn around and enjoy those 15 miles in reverse as you coast back towards Skagway. Along the ride, you’ll have the opportunity to take in expansive mountain views, the Black Lakes, a glimpse of the South Denver Glacier, the jagged Sawtooth range, and Bridal Veil Falls. Keep your eye open for our state bird, the Willow Ptarmigan, porcupines, marmots, and even sometimes – bears!

Restrictions and Notes: This is a suggested route while you rent a bicycle – it is not a guided tour. You will need to bring your passport for this ride. Waivers are required. Be prepared to share the road with some traffic. E-Bikes will not have enough battery to make it all the way to the summit. Child’s trailers are not recommended on the highway. Paper maps are available upon pickup. Helmets are provided. Bike locks available upon request.
